UNIQUE AND OUTSTANDING HORSE RIDING EXPERIENCES
At Country Cottage Stables, we offer a tailored Introduction to Horse Riding Programme.
Our programme introduces you to the wonderful world of horses in a fun, encouraging and informal setting.
It is aimed towards beginner riders and those who are slightly nervous of taking that first step of getting on board.
Each session takes about one and a half hours, and can cover a variety of topics such as basic horse handling, basic grooming, parts of the tack and basic horse riding skills.
Once you have mastered the basics we have a number of lesson or trekking options you can pursue as your confidence, skill and knowledge grows.
Our Introduction to Horse Riding Programme caters for both adults and children.

Kieran and Niall hosted me and my 11yr old daughter for a week at the stables and helped us tour the surrounding area. It was incredible. I am an inexperienced rider but felt so well taken care of, with assured guidance and calm horses. As well as their lovely arena, we rode on the beach and up in the Wicklow mountains, which are stunning. The atmosphere at the stables is calm, homely and so friendly, yet also highly professional and safety / welfare conscious. We have already planned to go back.NeilUnited Kingdom- I had no idea how to ride horses before this trip—it was my first time! Over the course of two weeks, I learned so much. By the end of the first week, I was ready to enjoy some amazing trails in the mountains, where we saw a stunning waterfall, and I even rode on the beach—an unforgettable experience! The horses were incredibly gentle and well-cared for, which made each ride so enjoyable. I will never forget Bowie, Rothko, and Guinness—what amazing horses to ride! Niall and Carole were fantastic guides, providing expert instruction and warm Irish hospitality that made me feel right at home. They taught me everything, from tacking a horse to washing and getting them ready for a ride. I learned so much and can’t wait to go again. - I spent last week at the piece of heaven that Kieran and Nials keep for horse people from near and far. What first catches your eye, as soon as you arrive at Country Cottage Stables, is the wonderful Sugrar Loaf Mountain and green Irish pastures. It was with that view that we set off on fabulous hacks masterfully guided by Kieran into the surrounding nature and also onto the nearby seashore. I take away great technical riding tips that Kieran shared with during an enlightening lesson at the arena. Last, but not least, Niles’ and Kiean’s hospitality and warm spirits can be felt by all riders at the stable. I truly hope to return.Leonel, Mexico
- I know Ciaran and Nial going back years and well they are a super team. Horses always turned out to the highest standard in looks and in the horses way of going no matter how big or small the show. - As a late starter to riding, I found country Cottage Stables by serendipity – pure luck. Kieran excels at matching horses to riders and has infinite patience, combined with high standards. He will push each rider to the point that s/he is capable of, which is a long way from the rider’s starting point. CCS is also a friendly, sociable yard with super hacking nearby. - I have been around the word. I have dug up a full intact oil lamp from the 1st century in Nazareth, Israel and I have spent a week on a boat traveling down some of the most remote parts of the Amazon River in Brazil. All this to say, my weekend with CCS in Ireland was without a doubt the most amazing experience and trip that I have ever been on. The horses are great, hospitality is even better, the country is beautiful, and CCS is wonderful. It’s much better than a typical pony walk on the side of the hill. - Just finished a week of horse camp with my daughter, Katie. It was fantastic from start to finish. The beach, hacks, lessons, picnics, stable management, plaiting, bandages, loading.
